Castle Square Deep Energy Retrofit – Project Summary
Castle Square Apartments (Boston) is an existing 500-unit 100% low-income apartment complex located in Boston’s South End. The property is owned by Castle Square Tenants Organization (CSTO), a 501c3. WinnDevelopment (Winn) is a minority partner. The property includes 450 HUD Section 8 units. Located in the heart of Boston, adjacent to Back Bay and Downtown, this 500-unit development is one of the most critical affordable housing resources in the City of Boston.
However, the property is over 40 years old with many capital needs. Energy and green design improvements will be incorporated as part of a comprehensive 4% Low Income Housing Tax Exempt Bond rehabilitation scheduled to begin construction in July 2010.
